Trimming and Pruning
• Crown cleaning is the removal of dead, dying, diseased, crowded, weakly attached and low-vigor branches from the crown of the tree.
• Crown thinning is the selective removal of branches to increase light penetration and air movement through the crown. Thinning reduces the wind resistance and helps prevent storm damage.
• Crown raising or elevating removes the lower branches from a tree in order to provide clearance for roofs, gutters, buildings, vehicles, walkways and obscured visibility. Elevating trees can also provide more light penetration on your lawn.
• Limb removal helps eliminate branches that interfere with wires, gutters, roofs, chimneys, windows, decks, play areas, or those that obstruct walkways and streets.
• Crown reduction reduces the size of the tree and reshapes the crown. This is necessary when a tree has been damaged by a storm.
• Wound dressings were once thought to accelerate wound closure, protect against insects and diseases, and reduce decay. However research shows wound dressings do not help and should be avoided. Dressings actually seal in moisture, preventing the wound from healing.
